About SCA Virgin of Zocueca

Who are they?

The Bailén Virgen de Zocueca Agricultural Cooperative, better known commercially as Picualia, is an olive oil company located in Bailén, in the heart of the province of Jaén. Founded in December 2009, the cooperative is the result of a strategic merger between two historic entities: Agrícola de Bailén and Virgen de Zocueca. The main objective of this merger was to optimize production processes and achieve greater efficiency in the production of extra virgin olive oil, with a special emphasis on the Picual variety, recognized worldwide for its extraordinary antioxidant and organoleptic properties.

Cutting-edge cooperativism

Picualia stands out for its implementation of advanced technology in all its processes, from cultivation to marketing. In 2015, it opened one of the most modern olive oil mills in the world, following an investment of nearly €12.8 million. These facilities allow the cooperative to have complete control over production, ensuring perfect traceability and a final product of exceptional quality.

Product range

Picualia's offering includes diverse product lines tailored to different types of consumers and needs. The Premium Range is aimed at olive oil lovers seeking a unique experience, with superior quality, organically grown oils, represented by brands such as Picualia Premium Orgánico. The Gourmet Range is ideal for discerning consumers, offering oils that enhance cuisine with intense and complex notes. Meanwhile, the Family Range maintains a high quality designed for everyday use, consolidating Picualia's commitment to excellence accessible to all.

In addition to its wide range of oils, Picualia markets olive oil-derived products under the "Delicias Picualia" line, which completes its culinary offerings by providing variety and versatility to consumers.

Awards and recognitions

The superior quality of its products has been widely recognized with more than 50 national and international awards. Among these recognitions, the prestigious Spanish Special Food Award 2024-2025, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in the "Sweet Green Fruity" category, stands out. This award underscores Picualia's ability to produce extra virgin olive oils that stand out for their organoleptic quality and differentiation.

Likewise, in 2016, Picualia was recognized as the Best Olive Oil Mill in Spain by the Spanish Association of Olive Growing Municipalities (AEMO), an award that recognized its efficient, innovative management and commitment to the environment. Internationally, it received the Gold Medal at the Olive Japan 2016 competition, a key recognition in one of the most demanding and selective markets in the world.

History of Picualia

Picualia's history reflects a perfect combination of tradition and innovation. With deep roots in Jaén's olive-growing culture, dating back more than 70 years to the first local cooperatives, Picualia has successfully integrated this ancient tradition with cutting-edge technology. This balance allows it to offer unique oils that satisfy both traditional and more modern and demanding consumers.

Today, the Virgen de Zocueca Cooperative is an undisputed benchmark in the Spanish and international olive oil sector. Its firm commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation continues to position it as an example to follow, faithfully representing the spirit and essence of the finest extra virgin olive oil from Andalusia.
