Updated (2025) — Selection of AOVEs awarded in 2025, focused on extra virgin olive oil brands available at Molino y Cata, with highly regarded references in Iberoleum, Jaén Selección and/or EVOOLEUM. Several of them are more well-known outside Spain than here.

Criteria: we only include brands/products with a verified 2025 award and an active purchase link in the store. We know that not everything that is good is included, but everything that is included is good. The other criteria we use to look at a label before buying are in price and smart buying.

    Which awards count in 2025

    • EVOOLEUM: international guide and awards; evaluates sensory quality, consistency and packaging.
    • Iberoleum: Spanish guide that scores the best AOVEs by category (intense, medium, mild).
    • Jaén Selección: annual selection by the Provincial Council of Jaén with very high prestige among producers.
    • Mario Solinas (COI): competition of the International Olive Council, one of the most demanding.

We have focused on these awards because they are Spanish oils and later we will make a bit of a ranking of international olive oil brands as awards beyond our borders.

    Why don't historic brands appear?

This list only includes verified 2025 awards. Brands with a great track record that have not been awarded in 2025 are not listed. Many of these brands do not enter awards by their own decision. Although awards are a springboard, they are not everything and in fact, we consider many oils that do not have awards and for us they are at a premium level.

Note: Check the product sheets to see the current campaign, batch and tasting notes.

How Iberoleum scores and the work of the taster

Behind each Iberoleum score is demanding tasting work. Being a taster in a competition is a complicated task that entails a lot of responsibility, because behind each sample there is a lot of work and passion from the producer. And when we select virgin olive oils for our own project like Molino y Cata, it is inevitable that the taster's preferences also influence.

That is why, when reviewing the list of AOVEs awarded in Iberoleum 2025, we were especially excited to find many of the oils we had already selected for this project, all above 90 points. Competitions and tasting play a fundamental role in the promotion, transparency and quality of extra virgin olive oil: they go much further than the award itself.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which awards are the most important in extra virgin olive oil?

EVOOLEUM is the reference international guide that evaluates sensory quality, consistency and packaging. Iberoleum is the most rigorous Spanish guide. Jaén Selección has very high prestige among producers. And Mario Solinas from the International Olive Council is one of the most demanding competitions in the world. If an oil appears in several of these guides, its quality is verifiable and consistent.

Which are the most awarded extra virgin olive oils from Spain in 2025?

Among the most outstanding are Jabalcuz Gran Selección and Oro Bailén with 96 points in Iberoleum, O-MED with 97.5 points, Señorío de Camarasa in the Top 10 of EVOOLEUM, and Picualia with 96 points and Jaén Selección. All share early harvest, identified variety and clear traceability. They are oils that year after year demonstrate consistency, not one-off strokes of luck.

Do awards guarantee that an olive oil is good?

Serious awards — with blind tasting by professional panels — confirm that the oil meets objective quality standards. But you may not like an awarded oil if you prefer a mild profile and the awarded one is intense. Awards are a reliable reference of technical quality. Your personal taste is another criterion, equally valid. Use awards as an initial filter, not as a final verdict.

Where can I buy the most awarded AOVEs from Spain?

At Molino y Cata, our olive oil shop in Granada and online store, we exclusively select oils awarded in the most demanding guides. Every oil we sell has an identified campaign, clear variety and verifiable awards. We personally taste them all before including them in our selection. Shipping to all of Spain in 24-48 hours and to Europe.
