Gift extra virgin olive oil

Think about the last gifts you received at a wedding, a communion or from a company at Christmas. Do you remember them? Probably not. A fridge magnet, a bag of almonds, a generic hamper with cheap wine. Gifts that tick a box but say nothing about whoever chose them.

Extra virgin olive oil is the opposite. It's a gift that gets opened, smelled — freshly cut grass and just-pressed olives — tasted on a piece of bread and used in the kitchen every day. It doesn't sit on a shelf gathering dust: it's lived. And every time someone uses it, they remember who gave it to them.

When someone opens one of our oils, I want them to stop for a moment. To smell it. To notice the difference. To understand that this isn't just "an oil" — it's the work of someone who cared for it like their own child.

But there's a difference between giving any oil and giving an oil selected by a professional taster. Mercedes Uceda tastes and evaluates every oil that enters our oleoteca in Granada. She knows the producer, has visited the mill, knows which harvest it's from and why it deserves to be in our selection. That rigour is what turns a pretty bottle into a gift with substance.
