This Picual presents aromas of tomato plant, green almond, banana peel and black pepper. On the palate, bitterness and pungency appear, but in a beautifully balanced way, leaving a fresh, mentholated aftertaste.

Pairing

Ideal used raw over fresh salads, oven-baked fish, steamed vegetables, and light pasta dishes, elevating each plate to a higher level of flavour.

Mercedes' expert opinion

Finca Badenes is a family project that proves controlling the entire chain from grove to bottle is the right approach. This Picual from the Guadalquivir valley has the varietal character well expressed. It is a project that has improved in quality year after year, reaching a wonderful complexity in this harvest.

Reviews

Finca Badenes is a family project born from 200 hectares of olive groves in the Guadalquivir valley, in Jabalquinto, Jaen. Grandfather Matias bought the estate in 1965 and named it after the undulations of the terrain. Today the family cultivates four varieties -- Picual, Frantoio, Arbequina and Empeltre -- across three different systems: traditional, intensive and super-intensive.

The almazara (olive oil mill) and bottling facility are in the heart of the estate. From tree to bottle without leaving home. This Picual is early harvest, with the harvesting moment carefully selected.

Finca Badenes Picual has won many accolades over the years, but in this 25/26 harvest it is achieving its finest results yet. A Picual from Jaen with a proven track record, crafted by a family with three generations on the same land.

Why it's in Molino & Cata

A family that controls everything -- from tree to bottle -- across 200 hectares of the Guadalquivir. Mercedes tasted it and fell in love. A Picual that tells the story of a family that has bet on quality, improving with every harvest.

Extra virgin olive oil is a fresh product. Its quality depends on proper storage and consuming it within its optimal date. If an online shop does not tell you which lot it will ship or when it expires, you have no way of knowing if what you receive is from this harvest or two years ago.

Be wary of shops that do not publish this information. We show it because we believe you have the right to know exactly what you are buying.

Frequently asked questions

Who produces Finca Badenes?

Aires de Jaen S.L., a family company managing the Los Badenes estate in Jabalquinto, Jaen. 200 hectares of olive groves with four varieties -- Picual, Frantoio, Arbequina and Empeltre -- and their own mill on the estate. The entire process, from tree to bottle, takes place on the same property.

What awards does the Finca Badenes Picual have?

It has entered the Top 100 of the world's best EVOOs. Gold medal at Brazil iOOC 2020 and recognitions at Expoliva, the benchmark international competition held in Jaen.

Is it early harvest?

Yes. The olives are picked between October and November, when they are still green and have the highest concentration of polyphenols. Milled on the same day as harvest.

What does the Finca Badenes Picual taste like?

Intense green fruitiness. Tomato plant and fig tree dominate on the nose. On the palate it has structure, with defined bitterness and progressive pungency. A Picual with character -- not mild, but not aggressive either.

Which dishes does it go best with?

Legumes, red meats, grilled vegetables, toast with tomato, hearty salads. Any dish that needs an oil that makes itself known. For delicate fish or baking, better choose the Coupage.

How should I store it?

In a dark, cool place, between 16 and 22C, away from heat sources. Once opened, consume within 4-6 weeks to enjoy it at its best.
