Oro del desierto

Oro del Desierto is a family-run olive oil mill located in the Tabernas Desert (Almería), internationally recognized for its high-quality organic extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).

Since 1999, the Alonso Aguilera family has cultivated its own olive groves under organic certification, combining tradition and innovation to offer oils that have won awards in more than 200 international competitions.

Thanks to a unique microclimate with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and sustainable production, its EVOOs stand out for their balanced flavor, richness in polyphenols, and respect for the environment.

In its range of products we can find the Coupage -composition of the master of the mill- and the single-varietals Lechín, Hojiblanca, Arbequina and Picual.

History

A Seven-Generation Family Tradition

The story of Oro del Desierto begins with the Alonso family, independent farmers in the Tabernas Desert for seven generations. In 1995, Rafael Alonso decided to resume the family's farming business, establishing a new organic olive grove on the inherited estate. In 1999, Rafael Alonso Aguilera SL was founded, restoring an old 1925 olive oil mill to produce its own EVOO. Today, the company has an olive oil museum, a restaurant, and sustainable rural accommodations, exporting to more than 30 countries.

Manufacturing process

Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

Oro del Desierto has cultivated varieties such as Arbequina, Hojiblanca, Picual, and Lechín on its own farms, all of which have been organically certified since 1995. Harvesting is done manually or with light machinery, using Asturcón horses to minimize environmental impact. The olives are processed in less than 8 hours using cold extraction by centrifugation at less than 27°C, using 100% renewable photovoltaic energy. Process waste is reused: the pits as fuel, the pulp as livestock feed, and the compost to fertilize the olive groves, thus closing the production cycle sustainably.
